What we know

Ramen VR confirmed the date in an official blog post titled “Zenith Servers Closing December 18, 2026,” published October 21. The studio says servers will stay online until 10:00 AM PST that Friday. After that, they go offline permanently and the live service game will not be accessible.

There is also an earlier cutoff for newcomers. Ramen VR says new users can download the free version of Zenith through Wednesday, November 18, 2026. After that date, new users cannot download it. Existing players keep access right up until the servers close.

Road to VR reports that since October 21, Ramen VR has ceased sales of Zenith: The Last City, which is now paid DLC, and of Zennies, the game’s premium currency. So the store side of Zenith is already shut, even though the world itself is still running for a few more weeks.

The studio was direct about the reasons. Ramen VR cited player retention and the cost of sustaining the game. It said it has kept servers online for more than two years since its July 2024 decision to end new content, and that running them at a loss is not feasible. Active player support ended in September 2024, though the studio says it will keep helping where it can until shutdown.

Ramen VR’s official site lists Zenith on Meta Quest 2, Quest 3, Rift, SteamVR and PlayStation VR2.

The road here has been long. Zenith launched in early 2022 as Zenith: The Last City, and Mixed News reports the studio raised $35 million shortly afterward. In early 2024, per Mixed News, Ramen VR released the free-to-play Zenith: Infinite Realms, turned The Last City into paid DLC and renamed the whole package Zenith: Nexus. UploadVR reported in July 2024 that Ramen VR was ceasing new development while promising to keep shards running and to warn players well in advance of any change. The final content update, Season 4: Golden Isles, arrived in August 2024, when Mixed News reports The Last City dropped from $30 to $10.

Road to VR sums up the arc: hundreds of thousands of players, tens of millions in funding, and a retention problem that made the game financially unsustainable despite the free-to-play relaunch.

What we don’t know yet

The biggest open question for paying players is refunds. Nothing in the Ramen VR announcement material we reviewed describes a refund plan for The Last City DLC or for Zennies. Until the studio or the platform stores say otherwise, treat refunds as not announced.

We also found no official word on an offline mode, private servers or any community-hosted option. Ramen VR’s own description is that the live service game “will not be accessible,” which reads like a full shutdown, but the studio has not addressed preservation plans directly.

What it means

For current players, the practical advice is simple. Spend whatever Zennies you have left, run the dungeons you always meant to finish and log the sessions with your guild while you can. The currency and DLC become worthless when the servers drop on December 18.

For curious newcomers, the November 18 download window is the last chance to see Zenith at all. It is free, it runs across Quest, PC VR and PS VR2, and it remains one of the more complete attempts at a true VR MMO.

For the wider industry, Zenith is a sobering data point. A well-funded studio with a large launch audience still could not keep enough players logging in to cover server bills. Any live service VR game that depends entirely on online infrastructure carries this risk, and the lack of an announced offline path means the game will likely stop being playable at all after December 18.
