CONFIRMED

Owlchemy Labs, the Google-owned studio behind Job Simulator, has revealed Hyper Visor, an arcade blaster built for XREAL’s Aura glasses rather than a VR headset. It is Owlchemy’s first game announced for Android XR glasses, and the studio says it arrives when Aura launches. Aura itself is still in pre-order, so nobody is playing this yet.

What we know

Hyper Visor is an arcade blaster from Owlchemy Labs, coming to XREAL Aura. The reveal landed on October 22, 2026, with coverage from Road to VR, GamesBeat and Game Developer.

The pitch is all about form factor. In a statement reported by GamesBeat, Andrew Eiche, Owlchemy’s “CEOwl,” said the studio’s philosophy is “XR for everyone.” He said the headset has been the biggest barrier for many people, and that Aura is essentially a pair of shades, which makes XR more approachable. That lines up with comments Eiche made to press in mid-October, reported by Hitmarker and vr.org, that Aura is starting to pass his “cafe test” for wearing XR in public.

On the hardware side, GamesBeat, Tom’s Guide and 9to5Google report that XREAL announced pricing on October 7, 2026: $1,279 for 12GB RAM and 256GB storage, and $1,499 for 16GB and 512GB. Pre-orders are open only to paid reservation holders, with general orders to follow. Launch markets are the US, Canada, Japan and South Korea, and XREAL says more markets follow in 2027.

For context, Aura started life as Project Aura, unveiled by XREAL and Google at Google I/O in May 2025 as the first optical see-through glasses built for Android XR. Road to VR’s hands-on in December 2025 put the field of view at 70 degrees. It is a pair of glasses tethered to a puck, not a headset.

Two claims floating around are wrong. A Game Developer article calls the device “HTC’s XREAL Aura headset.” Owlchemy’s press release, XREAL’s product page and the GamesBeat, Engadget and Road to VR coverage all describe Aura as an XREAL product co-developed with Google and Qualcomm, with no mention of HTC. And despite trailer wording that suggested otherwise, Hyper Visor is not available now, because Aura has not shipped.

What we don’t know yet

There is no firm release date for Hyper Visor. Owlchemy has also not said how it handles input on glasses, which is the big question for a blaster.

What is rumored

Android Authority, as relayed by iDevice, reports that Aura will start shipping in mid-November 2026. Android Authority is an established outlet, but vr.org notes that the date does not appear in XREAL’s release, blog post or shop listing. Treat mid-November as unconfirmed until XREAL says it.

A shakier claim comes from Zetik, a secondary aggregator citing unnamed “hands-on reports,” which says Aura has hand-tracking lag and inconsistent gesture recognition. Zetik names no original outlet and has no known track record, and neither Owlchemy nor XREAL has addressed it. If it were true, it would matter for a fast arcade game, but right now it is an unverified rumor and nothing more.

What it means

Owlchemy built its name on making VR approachable for people who had never touched a headset, so moving to glasses fits the studio’s playbook. Eiche has also linked VR layoffs to studios misreading what players want, and Hyper Visor reads like a bet that lighter, social-friendly hardware is what pulls in the next wave.

For players, the hard part is the cost of entry. At $1,279 minimum, Aura is a premium device, and a launch game from a respected studio helps make the case without settling it. How Hyper Visor feels on optical see-through glasses with a 70-degree view and glasses-first input is the real test, and we will not know until Aura is on faces. Until XREAL confirms a ship date, plan around “before the holidays” and nothing tighter.
